Today in Sevastopol, the first-ever meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Defense was held.

Today in Sevastopol, the first-ever meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Defense was held. The military discussed what types of advanced weapons will soon be supplied to the military. Also, they talked about those who are undermining political stability in Europe and the way our country is going to react.

Olga Armyakova will report on the important announcement from Crimea.

The City of Russian Military Glory is the very place to talk about the development of the defense sector; about the future of our armed forces. The whole history of Sevastopol has been written by the heroic deeds of the Russian military. A potential aggressor has no chance now as well. This unique joint task force is on guard in the southernmost parts of the country. Crimea is effectively protected on all sides.

Sergey Shoygu, Minister of Defense: "The region was always crucial for Russia. For almost 250 years, this was the place where the destiny of our homeland was at stake. Today, Crimea is playing the fundamental role in ensuring the military security of the country".

Poland and the Baltic states keep going on about "Russian aggression," as NATO continues a troop surge at our borders. As a proportionate response, there's an increase in the combat capabilities of the Southern Military District.

Sergey Shoygu: "Starting in 2020, NATO plans to keep a 30-day response time for 30 battalions, 30 squadrons, and 30 warships. The question is: why and against whom?"

The Russian army is ready to confront any threats. Figures show that better than any words: in just five years, the share of prospective weapons has grown more than fourfold. This all is due to the adoption of breakthrough technologies.

Sergey Shoygu: "We have developed a plan of transitioning military equipment to domestically-developed software. This will allow us to reach a qualitatively new level of information support in the armed forces".

It's planned to adopt state-of-the-art technologies. This includes the use of "ERA", a center for high tech, a place where research and development centers will be concentrated. The best newly-developed equipment will be able to enter the army in less than three years.
