The victory of "Buranovskiye Babushki"
Just a few hours left to the Eurovision song contest. The Final is tonight. We have followed "Buranovskiye Babushki" for two weeks in Baku. The last 14 days were difficult both for journalist and for singers.
Whatever results Russia will get at the Eurovision this year one can say that "Buranovskiye Babushki" has already won. According to many European journalists, the main achievement of the Russian grannies is their fight against stereotypes.
“At the Eurovision beautiful female singers are always more successful. That’s a tradition here. But the Russians grannies reminded us that a woman is not only a big breast, ass and long legs. A woman is something more. A real woman is impossible to explain. It is a special energy, warmth, sincerity, and the Russian grannies have all these qualities. They are real women”, - said the Finish journalist Mark Utila.
Only "Buranovskiye Babushki" was listened by standing audience in the first semi-final. They could not quietly pass the press-center; the journalists surrounded them in the circle. Their press-conferences were always the most crowded and reporters did not have enough chairs. At the opening ceremony the grannies made a real furor.
“I do not understand who else can win except the grannies. I saw them when they were walking in the Old Town and passed my shop. I greeted them and they greeted me”, - said the carpet shop owner Ramin.
The director of the radio station "Azad Azerbaijan" Emin Mousavi has also no doubts about the victory of Russia this year. “There is a very high probability that the next Eurovision will be held in Sochi”, - she said.
Not waiting for the contest results the president of Udmurtia Alexander Volkov has awarded the singers of “Buranovskiye Babushki” thehonorary titlePeople’s artist of the Udmurt Republic.
“We learned about it during our breakfast. Well, they gave it to us. It’s very nice”, - said the grannies to the Vesti.Ru reporter.
For them the church construction in Buranovo is their greatest achievement. “We are very happy here because we feel people’s love. What else we can wish. It doesn’t matter if we win or lose”, – they concluded.
