Despite heavy shelling of residential districts in Damascus and the suburban area by militants from the East Ghouta, the Russian Reconciliation Centre for Syria continues negotiations in order to make leaders of these illegal militia groups withdraw from East Ghouta, as reported by Major-General Vladimir Zolotukhin.

Mikhail Fedotov reports from the location.

Hands on shoulders, eyes looking at the back of the neck — a line of people appears in the so-called Gray Zone — the area between the positions of the terrorists and the Syrian army. Surrounded by Mukhābarāt, local special forces and the army, there are militants of the armed terrorist groups, who agreed to lay down weapons and leave the enclave in the eastern part of Damascus. The militants are subject to inspection in the area under government control. The Islamists leave the combat area with their personal belongings, and some of them could take weapons or explosives with them. Although, the inspection did not reveal any forbidden items.

The Syrian government has prepared a bus for the Jihadists, their heads are counted before the departure. None of the militants agreed to give an interview, most of them are young people, 20 — 25 years old.

The group of militants arrived to Mukhayim al-Wafideen checkpoint. There are 13 people in total in this white bus. They will now be taken to the green buses behind me. Then, all the terrorists will be sent to Idlib.

The militants refused to change buses, though. The bus stopped in al-Wafideen for a couple of minutes and then, escorted by military and medic cars, headed for Idlib.

Yuri Yevtushenko, Head of the Russian Reconciliation Centre for Syria: "The withdrawal was supervised by the Russian Reconciliation Centre for Syria. The first group of militants withdrew unarmed via the humanitarian corridor near Mukhayim al-Wafideen. This group will be moved to the area, not controlled by the government of Syria. The withdrawal of militants from East Ghouta will continue".

Most likely, the withdrawal of this group is some sort of a test: if the group is not detained by Syrian special forces, other Islamists in Ghouta may follow suit.
