Upgrade Time: Russian Units in Volga Region Get First S-400 Missile System

The S-400 Triumf anti-aircraft missile systems were put on alert in the Volga region. The complexes are designed to defeat air targets.
Sergey Arsenichev reporting.
In the entire combat history of the anti-aircraft missile regiment near Saratov, this is the third rearmament. The complexes S-300PS, which served for more than 20 years, were replaced by the latest S-400 Triumf. Only the goals haven’t changed.
"Protecting the most important facilities of the Russian Federation from the enemy’s air attacks".
The launchers lifting is both a solemn and symbolic event. It is from this moment that combat duty begins, and while it lasts, the rockets will always point into the sky.
The new division consists of eight anti-aircraft missile systems, which, under a single command, are able to follow 80 targets at once. In order to master the S-400, the Central Military District anti-aircraft gunners underwent retraining in the Leningrad Oblast and then had the opportunity to carry out practical launches at the Kapustin Yar state testing range. This bright video is from there.
Alexander Skidan, the anti-aircraft missile battalion commander: "The unit now includes a smaller number of soldiers, but the efficiency of the work isn’t reduced. Let's just say, our capabilities in the range of detection and destruction of air targets have increased".
At the same time, the target can fly both at a large and small altitude. The complex captures absolutely everything that moves above the cover zone. The speed of the target can reach almost five kilometers per second. Flying weapons available in the world today don’t move faster.
Valery Ivanin, the Guards Anti-aircraft Missile Regiment commander: "The modern S-400 can guarantee the destruction of any aerodynamic or aeroballistic target of all existing countries of the modern world".
In the near future, the regiment will be equipped with another additional battalion of missile-gun complexes Pantsir-S1. They’ll cover the main anti-aircraft complexes so that in case of combat use, the S-400 isn’t distracted by small targets.
