"No Hot Women Allowed" - Neo-Puritan UK Media up in Arms Over Sexy Russian Models

Black swimsuits, net tights, bright makeup. Well, and the pylon. The photo shows Lyudmila Lazebnaya and Varvara Ilyina. Dancers from Novosibirsk, who managed to provoke a scandal in the UK. And the scandal is a sexist one. But I won’t tell too much yet. They performed in London, at the stand of one of the Czech companies at a gambling exhibition after they received an official invitation. In three days, they performed about twenty dances on their poles. They rehearsed for a long time, did their best and were satisfied with themselves.
At least, they’re sure that no one was more beautiful than them at the exhibition. Yes, but not everyone appreciated it. On the second day, there were some spectators or representatives of other exhibitors who severely criticized this very Czech firm for using the female body for mercenary purposes. Publications followed in such mass-media as The Daily Mail and The Guardian. The message is the same: promotion built on attractiveness is unethical.
Nikolai Sokolov tried to understand how fair such an assessment is.
- Maybe we should leave only cars at car shows and take away the beautiful models?
- They say that advertisement is the most effective driver of trade but in this case, most probably, even the Queen herself might have watched the exhibition. Their hot dances have long warmed Siberian men. But now, indeed, this duet is conquering the world scene. And if their climbing starts with a scandal, it’s even better. More views on the Internet and more media attention.
They ask not to compare them with the striptease industry workers. The only thing in common with adult nightclubs is the dancing pole, the pylon. Pole dance is a combination of theatrical art, dance, and acrobatics. People are happy to see such girls not only at parties but also serious events. Trade fairs, conferences, presentations.
Irina Pronina, pole dance instructor: "We're sometimes addressed by different organizations asking to dance at exhibitions, at health food exhibitions, car shows. They ask us to make a difficult and interesting performance. We attract many people. They take pictures of us and applaud."
The Western press accused the Russians of promoting obscene behavior at the exhibition of IT technologies. Girls probably weren't understood in Britain's high society, but the men who came to appreciate the modern virtual reality, judging by photos and video, not only saw the advantages of the dance but also touched it with their hands. Pole dance is also a really difficult training. Not every master of sports can perform it. Those who can show such tricks don't participate in the Olympics. But the biggest world's circuses include such elements in their program. It's performed not only women but by men as well.
Oleg Kolvakh, Russian pole dance championship finalist: "This is an incredibly difficult sport because it includes acrobatic, gymnastic elements, panther choreography, we matched what can't be matched. Strength elements, stretching, flexibility rotation, and yet, there needs to be a plot of some kind in many competitions".
Some criticize the duet from Novosibirsk for being overly explicit on stage. The image of Russian women abroad can be recreated according to such dances. As you know, in the UK, it has long been associated with runaway oligarchs’ wives.
Olga Letkova, head of the Parents' and Communities' Ass'n: "The state must care about the citizens that we bring up. Whether they're spoiled people that only want to satisfy their lust".
Show business workers know the rules of the game well. Beautiful dances are only half the success. The ability to find an audience is also important. After such a scandal in London, this dance tandem became known in many European countries. There’ll most likely be more orders. Including for corporate parties in men's groups.
Maria Kokhno, reality show participant: "They wonderfully diluted the IT guys' group. The ones who buy magazines and look at these girls but never dream of touching them, as they look very shy in their check shirts. I think it was a present for the guys!"
Pole dance is becoming more popular. It’s one of the most suitable dances for any catching songs. This is often used in their practice, for example, by the show business stars. Each performer of such dances decides on their own whether to shock the public or to surprise them.
We know that the Russians will stay in London until February 16. And after that, they’ll return to their homeland, ready to spread their autographs to anyone.
