A historic event took place today in Crimea. The two banks between Taman and Kerch were connected. Now, the bridge has become a single structure. This happened after the final junction of the road sections. Car traffic through the bridge will be opened by the end of 2018.

Olga Armyakova will report from the spot on how the banks were connected.

The final meters necessary to connect the two banks. A giant metal thread from Kerch stretches to the fairway. A smooth, barely noticeable movement. Very soon, the spans will be connected with the arch. A New Year's gift from the Crimean Bridge constructors.

They worked days and nights. The accelerated shooting shows the whole process from the parts assembly on the ground to the start of the launching. Several months of continuous work in one minute.

Multi-tone structures literally slide over the water. 20 centimeters per minute. From the shore in the fairway direction, they are being pushed with the help of jacks. And here, it’s not the speed but mathematical precision that’s important, so that every span is in its place. And finally, the finish line.

The works foreman: "The launching is over, thank you all for the work!"

The first fireworks above the Crimean Bridge arches. One of the most complicated technological stages is completed not just successfully but ahead of schedule.

Dmitry Kondakov, SGM-Most deputy director. "There’s still a lot of work to be done. We need to lower the flying structure to the planned support parts. We need to install the expansion joints, to lay the asphalt, to put the barrier railings and the marking, and to start the two-lain movement on each side in time".

The car traffic over the Kerch Strait will begin in a year.
