HAYRAPET ARAKELYAN was born in Yerevan, Armenia. He studied with Daniel Gauthier at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne Germany as well as with Prof. Lars Mlekusch at the MUK Wien. He is the 1st Prize winner of many international saxophone competitions, including the Saxophone International Competition in Nantes (France), the ‘Yamaha’ Competition in Yerevan (Armenia),
the International Adriatico Competition in Ancona (Italy), the 6th International Competition in Oldenburg (Germany), the International Marco Fiorindo Saxophone Competition in Turin (Italy), the International Saxophone Competition in Lodz (Poland) and others. In 2010 Mr. Arakelyan represented Germany in the final of the Eurovision Young Musicians contest in Vienna.
The young musician has appeared in numerous musical festivals in Paris, Zurich, New York, Berlin, Singapore, the 12th International Palace and Musical Olympus Festivals in St. Petersburg, the Aberdeen International Youth Festival (Scotland), in the ‘Riva del Garda and Rheingau’ music festivals. He has performed as a soloist with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, the Boston Pops Orchestra, the State Symphony Orchestra of the Hermitage, the Symphony and the Chamber Orchestras of Armenia, the Kölner Sinfonietta, the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra and others. Mr. Arakelyan is also an active chamber musician. In 2010 he founded a duo with the pianist Gleb Koroleff. In 2012 he extended his chamber music vision by co-founding the Fratres Trio with the pianist Rudolvs Vanks and the violinist Fedor Roudine. Since 2018 he is a member of a famous SIGNUM Saxophone quartet. As part of the ensembles, he became the winner of the highest prizes and awards, performed at many music festivals, as well as on the radio. In 2012 Arakelyan’s debut CD ‘French Connection’ was released. He is the artist of ‘Selmer and D`Addario Woodwinds’.
