An outstanding oboist, Hansjörg Schellenberger was victorious at the Jugend musiziert German national competition in the age of 17. In 1969 Schellenberger became an oboe pupil of Manfred Clement and was instructed in conducting by Jan Koetsier.

In 1971 he became an oboist in the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra and within four years advanced to the post of its solo oboist.

Hansjörg Schellenberger was among the founders of the Ensemble Wien-Berlin, and of the Berlin Haydn Ensemble.1981-2000 – he was a soloist of Berlin Philharmonic. Worked with many world-famous conductors.

Since 2000 became a principal professor of oboe at the Queen Sofía College of Music in Madrid.

Hansjörg Schellenberger was appointed chief conductor of the Okayama Philharmonic Orchestra in 2013.

Member of the jury of the International Television Contest for Young Musicians 'The Nutcracker', discipline ‘Wind Instruments and Percussion’.
